Love Northumberland 2014

Love Northumberland 2014

Kyle Tate and Taylor Sloane accept the award on behalf of the Klarty Klub from the Duchess of Northumberland at Alnwick Gardens.

The Klarty Klub is a group of young people aged from 11+ who meet every Saturday and have build their own garden out of recycled household objects such as bath tubs and toilets in whuch they successfully grew a wide variety of vegetables.

Central Mosaic

In March 2014, we were commissioned by Northumberland County Council to help them renovate the Memorial Park. As a result, we worked with artist Paul Hardcastle and over 100 people in the community from ages 2 to 72 to produce a stunning mosaic that is now central to the park. We also produced two "talking posts" that are fuelled by pedal power and which have local people talking about their town to help visitors know where to go and what to do.

High Sheriff Award

In 2014, we received an award for our work with young people from the High Sheriff of Northumberland. Dominic Richardson and Alison Raimes are seen accepting the award presented by Conrad Dickinson.

Love Northumberland 2013

Winner of Love Northumberland 2013 'Best Business Project' for our SMARTZ Club work in the Yard. Trustees, Rob Halliburton and Alison Raimes along with volunteer James Routledge collect the award from the Duchess of Northumberland at Alwnick Gardens.

BBC Look North

BBC Look North

On Friday 1st March 2013, Look North, The Journal, Hexham Courant and the Cumberland News joined us in the yard to report on our paint day for 'Let's Colour' project, funded by Dulux.  We were joined by our MP, Guy Opperman and County Councillor, Ian Hutchinson who approved a £10,000 grant from his member's allowance to help us refurbish the SHED.

National Parks Dark Skies Stargazing event

In February 2013 we worked with National Parks on a Stargazing inspired project over four weeks. Astronomer, Emma Guerrero talked to a group of adults and children helping to inspire a creative reponse to the amazing Dark Skies that are right here in Haltwhistle. The result was a Walk In Universe!

After School Club

Funded by Sherburn House Charity in 2013 we ran an 12 month long, exciting programme of art activities.

Keyfund: The Art Fartz Club

The Art Fartz Club is the result of a successful pitch by four young men to Keyfund for a grant of £250 which they used for a visit to the Baltic Mill and Laing Gallery and then held their own art club for three months.

Dulux "Let's Colour" UK

We participatedin Dulux "Let's Colour" UK who provided us with enough bright paint to spruce up our very tired yard. Thanks to Dulux!

A huge thanks to Dulux for letting us partake in their 'Let's Colour' project. With the 150 litres of paint they donated, we turned Scarth's Yard into a blaze of colour. Taking this tired, run down ex-builder's yard, we turned the site into a huge tourist attraction and a wonderful space for the community to participate in and enjoy.
