Helen Pailing: Space, Line, Gravity & Encounter
14 Feb - 5th March in the SHED
Special Viewing Sat 21 Feb 11- 3pm
Helen is creating an entirely new body of work for The Shed Gallery that explores ideas about line and how it occupies space. With a background in contemporary embroidery, the work is underpinned by Helen’s investigative approach to stitch
The collection of drawings, sculptural objects and installations are formed out of an intuitive response to a range of materials including glass, wool, plastic and wire. Through the process of recycling landcoil pipe, tree shelters and chainsaw chains, the objects become invested with new meaning as well as making a direct connection to the rural context in which the work was made.
There will be an element for improvisation when installing the larger sculptural installations that will occupy space in a temporary way and add to the playfulness of the exhibition.
