artist in residence

"I am interested in the presentational form of a photograph and it’s collaboration with the materiality of the image. These areas of investigation have been at the core of my work over the past three years and were essential to the development of my work this year. Through these themes I have been experimenting with alternative and 19th century photography, specialising in Wet Plate Collodion. I have been inspired by the interesting correlation between the powerful factors affecting the landscape (time/erosion/natural factors) and the effect that the 19th century processes that I am working with alter/influence the images."

The collection of drawings, sculptural objects and installations are formed out of an intuitive response to a range of materials including glass, wool, plastic and wire. Through the process of recycling landcoil pipe, tree shelters and chainsaw chains, the objects become invested with new meaning as well as making a direct connection to the rural context in which the work was made.

There will be an element for improvisation when installing the larger sculptural installations that will occupy space in a temporary way and add to the playfulness of the exhibition.

New Trustees: This month, we welcome Ceri Gibson to our Board of Trustees and as a Director of our Company. Ceri has a background in environmental chemistry and water quality monitoring. She has a PhD in Remote Chemical Sensing from University of Kent and spent time working in Austria and the Republic of Ireland before discovering the Tyne! Ceri now works for the Tyne Rivers Trust and has become very connected to Haltwhistle through the recent Catchment Restoration Fund project; ‘Haltwhistle Burn – a total catchment approach’, that she co-ordinated. Previous interests have included running ‘Green Gyms’ to the benefit of communities and wildlife alike and she is very keen to achieve something similar for ‘Wor Space at the Whistle Art Stop.

We also are pleased to announce that Wendy Bond, who has worked as a Trustee on our Board or over a year, has also been appointed as a Director of the Company. Wendy has already done a lot of work for the Whistle Art Stop as a committee member and we look forward to working closely with her on future community engagement projects.
