Arts Award 2016

Last year's Arts Award programme was jammed packed with exciting projects including the Summer Art project - the Hobbit Hole.

This year will be just as exciting. We will be working closely with ages 7-25 to help them build up their Arts Award portfolios. Through printing, painting, sculpture, film making, animation and much more, our young people will have access to many skills learning sessions that they would not have at school. For instance, Ben has built his own website as part of his Bronze Arts Award and Josh and Lee are creating an art film for their Silver Arts Award, based around the Whistle Art Stop that they will be screening later on in the year. Dominic is preparing to hold an exhibition of his Silver Arts Award and Hannah is just finishing her Discover and is eagerly wanting to start her Explore. These are just a few names of a very long list!

On Friday 5th Aril 10-4m, we will be holding taster sessions for anyone wanting to do an Arts Award. .It's all FREE so come along and find out more.

The Klarty Klub in Calais

Throughout this long, miserable winter, the Whistle Art Stop has been helping collect donations for refugees in Syria in collaboration with Refugee Aid Network and One Ummah in Stockton. The generosity of the local people in Haltwhistle and surrounding areas resulted in over 5 vans loads of donations being sent in containers to a women and orphans home in Syria where it is desperately needed.

As a result of this work, Alison will be travelling to Calais in April as part of a convoy taking aid to struggling families living in desperate conditions. The main intention is to take art materials to the school working in the Calais and Dunkirk camps and to set up a regular partnership where Alison will deliver art workshops to the young people there.

We need your help! Even a small donation of £5 will help to buy the materials and to part fund this trip.

Dig deep for a great cause. Alison will do the rest!

I'd like to extend a special thanks to everyone who helped me through a difficult time of two family bereavements recently and a serious illness late last year. I was touched by the kindness and help that I received during that very difficult time and am pleased to be back at full strength again. Alison Raimes (project co-ordinator)
